There are two types of Kumbh Mela celebrated in India, The Ardh (half) Kumbh and Purna (Complete) Kumbh. The Ardh Kumbh is celebrated every six years while Purna Kumbh is celebrated every twelve years. The Ardh Kumbh takes place in Haridwar and Allahabad where Purna Kumbh takes place in four places Haridwar, Allahabad, Ujjain and Nashik.
Simhasth Kumbh Mahaparv event is completely depends on planetary motion of planet Jupiter and the Sun. When Jupiter and the sun both fall in zodiac Scorpio the fair is held in Ujjain. Their auspicious dates for bathing in every Kumbh are calculated well before according to a special astrological combination of sun, moon and Jupiter.

According to the history Kumbh mela is originated from the story of Samudra Manthan or Churning of ocean of Milk, between Gods and demons. During churning when Kumbh of nectar appeared, the flight between Gods and demons had begun in the sky for twelve days and twelve nights. During the battle, Lord Vishnu incarnates as Mohini-Murthi appeared and tooka way the Kumbh of nectar. While running away with the Kumbh of nectar pouring drops of amrita at four places Allahabad, Haridwar, Ujjain and Nasik. That show Kumbh mela is celebrated in four places.
Simhastha 2016 will begin on 22nd of April and will continue till 21st of May. People come from all over the world to join the Kumbh fair to see the rituals.
